Equipping professionals to
address sexual shame in gay men
The SHAMELESS Foundation exists to educate organizations and professionals
on the origins and impacts of sexual shame in gay men,
equipping them with ethical, evidence-based frameworks for care.
Shame thrives in silence.
Change begins with education.
The SHAMELESS Foundation was founded by Kevin Martin after witnessing how sexual shame—especially among gay men—undermines wellbeing, distorts relationships, and limits access to affirming care.
The Foundation’s mission is to advance research, education, and professional training on sexual shame, with a focus on equipping organizations and providers to offer informed, ethical, and shame-aware care for gay men.
Our vision is a future where education replaces shame, and gay men are supported by professionals and institutions grounded in dignity, competence, and cultural understanding.
Introducing The SHAMELESS Method™
The SHAMELESS Method™ is an educational framework developed by the SHAMELESS Foundation to support research-informed, shame-aware approaches to care for gay men.
Rooted in contemporary research on sexual shame, identity development, trauma, and nervous system regulation, the SHAMELESS Method provides organizations and professionals with a structured understanding of how sexual shame forms, how it is reinforced, and how it can be addressed within ethical, affirming models of care and education.
The Method is designed for use by trained professionals and educators and is delivered through formal curricula, workshops, and certification programs administered by the SHAMELESS Foundation.
The SHAMELESS Method is an educational methodology.
It does not provide therapy, clinical treatment, or direct coaching to individuals. Instead, it equips professionals with conceptual frameworks, ethical guidelines, and culturally informed language to support shame-aware practice in their respective fields.
Educational components of the SHAMELESS Method include:
The developmental origins of sexual shame in gay men
Cultural, religious, and systemic influences on sexual identity
The impact of shame on embodiment, desire, and relational dynamics
Trauma-aware and nervous-system-informed perspectives
Ethical considerations and professional boundaries
Language and practices that reduce shame and promote dignity
Through the SHAMELESS Method, the Foundation offers structured training and certification for professionals seeking to deepen their understanding of sexual shame in gay men and integrate shame-aware frameworks into their work.
Certification through the SHAMELESS Foundation signifies completion of an educational program in the SHAMELESS Method and adherence to the Foundation’s ethical standards. It does not confer licensure or clinical credentials.
The SHAMELESS Method™
A six-step framework for identifying, understanding, and releasing sexual shame.
Step 1: Reveal
Become aware of your internal shame messages. What are the phrases, tones, or fears that loop inside your head when you think about your body, your desire, or your identity?
Step 2: Root
Trace those messages back to where they came from—family, religion, media, past relationships, or moments of rejection. Every voice of shame has an origin story.
Step 3: Review
Ask the honest question: Is this belief actually helping me, or is it keeping me small? This is where we separate truth from inherited conditioning.
Step 4: Release
Let go of the messages that are no longer serving you. This step is about forgiveness, grief, and liberation—the moment your body exhales.
Step 5: Replace
Create new, helpful messages that reflect who you’re becoming, not who you were told to be.
Step 6: Repeat
Rehearse those new messages daily. Speak them, breathe them, embody them—until they become second nature, until they feel like home.
